Our research centres on the development of new catalysts and the
catalysis of novel organic reactions.
This research lies at the interface of organic and inorganic
chemistry; in our group the development of novel organic methodology
goes hand in hand with catalyst development.
We are particularly interested in developing new organic reactions
that proceed via catalytic C-H activation and producing new
catalysts for challenging coupling reactions. Catalysts produced in
the group range from organometallic complexes with well defined
ligand architectures to nanoparticulate metals.
The Synthetic Chemistry Building (right), in which the Bedford lab is
situated is celebrating its tenth birthday this year. Ours is one of 16
labs in the SCB and is on the top floor with views over Bristol. The building houses 198 fume-hood
workspaces and each lab has a separate write-up area.
A research project in our group would encompass a range of
synthetic, catalytic and characterisation techniques.
