Dr. Alexander Kulak
Research
I am Russian, and in a previous life was an organometallic chemist. Some years ago while working in South Korea I changed my field of interest and started to play with nanochemistry. Currently, I am investigating the growth of calcium carbonate as a model compound in the pores of track-etch membranes and in polymer membranes with sponge-like structures (formed as replicas of sea urchin skeletal elements). The goal of this project is to prepare single crystals with complexes morphologies and to try to understand the mechanism of crystallization. It's very interesting and new work for me and I spend a lot of time "in laboratory". For resting and relaxing I'm using Laphroaig (10 or 15 y.o.) or a few other Single Malt Islay Whiskies.
