The Triphenylmethyl Radical

February 12th 1997 was the 50th anniversary of the death of Moses Gomberg. The millennium will mark the centenary of his landmark publication in 1900 on the triphenylmethyl radical, generally regarded as the beginning of free radical chemistry. At the 7th International Symposium on Organic Free Radicals held in Bardolino, Italy in June 1996, it was decided that, to commemorate the centenary, the 8th International Symposium on Organic Free Radicals will be held in Ann Arbor, Michigan in the year 2000.
