Hybrid Instruments, Tandem and Sequential Mass
Spectrometry
In a modern mass spectrometry laboratory, it is increasingly common
to find hybrid instruments i.e. instruments that have 2 (or more) mass
analysers used in combination. There are two main reasons for coupling
mass analysers together, one is to try to get the benefits of both
analysers in one instrument, the other
is to be enable the use of tandem mass spectrometry (controlled
fragmentation) studies. The following links to pages on specific
aspects of tandem and sequential mass spectrometry.
