Hyphenated Techniques
Mass spectrometry is not only used to analyse pure compounds,
mixture analysis is also of high importance. Although it is possible
(and sometime desirable) to do total analysis of mixtures by direct
injection, it is often preferable to do some sort of on-line
separation and/or chromatography in combination with the mass
