Hyphenated Techniques

Mass spectrometry is not only used to analyse pure compounds, mixture analysis is also of high importance. Although it is possible (and sometime desirable) to do total analysis of mixtures by direct injection, it is often preferable to do some sort of on-line separation and/or chromatography in combination with the mass spectrometry. There are a number of hyphenated techniques and the links below take you to pages from the NERC Life Sciences Mass Spectrometry facility out-lining them.
