My research

My research in the lab involves synthesising peptides (and later proteins) that self-assemble to form “tracks” (long, extended, fibres) or “hubs” (short, discrete assemblies of peptides), which can eventually be functionalised with bioactive macromolecules. The peptides contain two α-helical regions connected via a linker. This linker allows the peptides to be flexible. The peptides can assemble with other peptides to form dimeric coiled-coils and it is these dimeric coiled coils which can then self-assemble to form the higher order sturctures - the long fibres or smaller, discrete assemblies.
