The Raman Spectrum of Diamond

<A href="diamond.static.xyz"></A>

The diamond lattice can be thought of as two interlocking face centered cubic (FCC) lattices. There is a single peak in the Raman spectrum of pure diamond which arises from the motion of the two lattices relative to one another, such that all the unit cells throughout the lattice are exactly in phase. Please use the buttons above to investigate. Click on the peak in the spectrum to start the animation and anywhere else to restore the static image.
