The main focus of my research is in the understanding of structure and inter-particle forces in dispersions of colloidal particles in poly(ethylene oxide) melts and solid polymers. The structure of these materials is being probed via a combination of solid-state NMR spectroscopy, small-angle scattering (X-ray and neutron) and TEM. Whilst inter-particle forces are being probed by small-angle scattering and atomic force microscopy. Measurements of spin-spin relaxation times by NMR are also being used to probe dynamics of the polymer chains in these composite materials. My other research interests also include the structure of polymer blends and composite materials.

This research is funded by ICI (Wilton, UK)
