atomATOMIC WEIGHTatom

The atomic weight of an element is the mass of one mole (6.023 * 1023 atoms) of an element.

Graph to show atomic weights

N.B. The first row elements have atomic numbers of 3 to 10.

This will increase across a period as the atomic number increases, resulting in more protons and neutrons in an atom of an element, so each mole of an element will be sucessivly heavier.

This property will also increase down a group, again as more protons and neutrons are added to each atom.
