LAVOISIER AND THE DISCOVERY OF

COMBUSTION

Introduction

Lavoisier was one of the most influential chemists in the eighteenth century.  His ideas and experiments changed the way scientists worked and he is often called the Father of Modern Chemistry-chemistry as we know it today.

Despite the opposition, Lavoisier published his experiments and the conclusions he drew from them.  However his enthusiasm for precision and qualitative observations was not well received and he gained little credit for the work he carried out on combustion and other chemistry based experiments.
