CATALYTIC OZONE DESTRUCTION

There are several molecules present in the stratosphere which can catalyse the destruction of ozone via the mechanism:

X + O3 = XO + O2

XO + O = X + O2

Where X is the catalyst and the overall reaction is the fourth reaction in the Chapman Cycle.

Catalysts are OH, H, NO, Cl and Br.
