Introduction

Polymers (or plastics as they are also called) are known to have good insulating properties.  Polymers are one of the most used materials in the modern world.  Their uses and application range from containers to clothing.

They are used to coat metal wires to prevent electric shocks.  However it is now recognized that there are some polymers which have conducting properties.  These are not necessarily complicated polymers even polyactelyene has been discovered to have these properties.  This is one of the simplest chain polymers it possesses conjugated double bonds.

This research is consisted so important that the 2000 Nobel Prize in Chemistry was awarded to three of the leading researchers in conducting polymers.
