Paracelus, one of the earliest practitioners of chemical medicine, is appointed to the chair of medicine at Basel. he advocates opium as a cure, and metallic remedies, especially preparations of mecury.

1556 A.D.

The most famous of Agricola's work on minerology and metallurgy, "De Re Metallica," is published.

1597 A.D.

Liberavius writes the first chemical textbook.
