The quantum computer… … … the quantum computer would be a data rocket. It probably would do calculations a good billion times faster than the latest Pentium PC. It would be able to search the entire Internet in the blink of an eye and could break any cryptographic security code every invented.

Sound like science fiction? Or not? Over the past year, quantum computers have become a serious contender for What Comes Next – after Moore’s Law takes the current architecture of transistors mounted on microprocessors as far as it can go, in increasing processing power.

While computers have been around for the majority of the 20^th Century, quantum computing was first theorised just 20 years ago by the physicist Paul Benioff at the Argonne National Laboratory, USA.

So What Is A "QUANTUM COMPUTER"?
