Composite Cone

   

Formed at destructive plate margins where the lava is rich in silica, therefore the lava is stiff so steep sided volcanoes are produced. Eruptions are violent. A composite cone is made up of layers of lava and ash. The lava is sticky so it solidifies before it can travel far.
