Introduction to CDs

CDs are found practically everywhere that technology is involved these days. They are used to store information of all sorts, ranging from music and movies to software and data.

The principle function of a CD is to store large amounts of data in a medium that is durable, easy to use and can be stored and transported without hassle. The main downfall of a CD is that it can be ruined by bad scratching of the read surface, although as long as the metal surface itself has not been damaged then recovering the disc is possible.

An average disc can store up to 700MB of data or 74 minutes of music and it is possible to use them in virtually all computer systems, or music systems if applicable
