Biodegradable: Organic materials such as grass clippings or paper that are capable of being broken down by microorganisms into carbon dioxide, water and other simpler substances. Biodiesel: A renewable alternative fuel to diesel. Bioinert: Very unreactive to natural biochemical processes. Biosolvents: Environmentally friendly solvents Binary ionic liquids: Ionic liquids which consist of several different ionic species which are in equilibrium with each other. Methyl esters: A carboxylic acid derived compound. Microorganisms: Organisms which are too small to be seen clearly by the unaided eye. Polymer: A long chain molecule consisting of a large number of monomer units Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC): Compounds that are toxic, volatile and harmful with a damaging effect on the environment. |
