Recycling Plastic

Introduction

Close to where I live in Bristol there are four recycling bins very similar to those in the picture below. Here it is possible to recycle green, brown and clear glass and steel and aluminium cans.

At home in Sheffield all houses have tall blue bins as shown in the picture below and these are specifically for recycling paper.

However I have never seen any type of facility for recycling plastic. Plastics are one of the most complicated materials to recycle. A reason for this is that there are different types of plastic. This means that prior to recycling there needs to be some sort of separation. Some items are composed of more than one of these types of plastic further complicating the problem.
