How Do Humans Get Birdflu?
|
|
Bird flu is transmitted from bird to bird by direct contact
with bodily excrement and respiratory secretions. It can also be passed if the
feed, water, cage etc is contaminated. It can also be passed to domestic birds
if the birds are allowed to roam freely and if they drink water which may have
been contaminated by another bird or has been in contact with infected faeces.
If humans have contact with wild ducks or chickens directly
or indirectly, through infected water, aerosols, inhaling particles from dried
discharge or from surfaces, it is possible for the disease to be transmitted.
The virus is inactivated by heat hence you cannot get bird
flu from a chicken that's been cooked.
To date there is no evidence of human to human
transmission.
