Siti Sofo IsmailMolecular analysis of the impact of cadaver burial on the soil environment and the implications for forensic investigation Siti is currently undertaking a PhD funded by the Malaysian government. Her research focuses on the effect that cadaver burial has on the organic geochemistry of associated soils. It is proposed that the qualitative and quantitative analysis of organic compounds in soil combined with stable isotope determinations may be applied to soils to potentially yield evidence of cadaver burial, biological origin and geographical point of origin. |

Christine McCartneyEther lipids as biomarkers for methanogenic Archaea in the ruminant gastro-intestinal tract Chrissie is currently undertaking a PhD funded by the Irish Agriculture and Food Development Authority (Teagasc). Her work is concerned with the development of ether lipids such as archaeol as new proxies and a new, non-invasive method for assessing the methane emissions of cattle. She is also interested in identifying the diversity and distribution of methanogens in the rumen and correlating these results with the biomarker proxies being used to monitor methane emissions. |
