Instrumentation
The following is a overview of the analytical instrumentation that I currently operate and/or maintain.
ThermoQuest TraceMSThe ThermoQuest Trace MS is a bench-top GC/MS instrument with a single quadrupole analyser. This one has been fitted with a PTV and on-column injectors but is only configured for EI operation; a CTC A200S autosampler has also been incorporated. The analyser has a 2-1023 Dalton mass range making the whole package aptly suited for high throughput, low resolution GC/MS analysis. |

PerkinElmer TurboMass GoldThe PerkinElmer TurboMass Gold is a high-end bench-top GC/MS instrument with a single quadrupole analyser. Equipped with both EI and CI (+/-) ionisation it has a mass range of 1-1200 Daltons and is capable of some of the fastest scan rates currently available for quadrupole GC/MS (full-scan and SIR in the same run). This instrument has been retrofitted with a CTS 2500 Pyrolysis autosampler and is used primarily for the Py-GC/MS of involatile samples. |

ThermoElectron MAT95 XP-TrapThe ThermoElectron MAT95 XP-Trap is a double focussing dual sector (reverse Niers Johnson geometry)-ion trap hybrid mass spectrometer and is the most versatile of all the instruments I maintain. It is equipped with both GC (EI and CI +/-) and HPLC interfaces (electrospray and APCI) and is capable of both low and high resolution measurements and MIKES. The addition of an ion trap also enables MSn expermients to be performed. |

Finnigan MAT Delta SThe Finnigan MAT Delta S is dedicated to stable carbon isotopic (δ13C) analyses having been extensively modified to provide high sensitivity; δ13C values for compounds with typical abundances of less than 5 ng may be determined. The GC utilizes a SPI injector and is also fitted with a CTC A200S autosampler. |

ThermoQuest DeltaPlusXLThe ThermoQuest DeltaPlusXL as well as being able to perform compound specific δ13C analyses can also used to make analogous δ15N, δD and δ18O analyses. This particular mass spectrometer is attached, via a modified GCIII interface, to an Agilent 6890 GC equipped with a CTC A200S autosampler and is configured exclusively for δD analysis. |

ThermoElectron Delta XPThe Delta XP represents the next generation of ThermoElectron isotope ratio mass spectrometers capable of performing all of the analyses of earliar models but with improved electronics and enhanced computer control and automation. This particular instrument is interfaced, via a GCIII interface, to a ThermoElectron Trace GC equipped with a CTC GC Pal autosampler and is dedicated to δ13C and δ15N analyses. |
