Surfactant solutions will be investigated in contact with oil droplets. Marangoni effects will induce motion of the oil droplets. The project is to optimise chemical nature and composition of these systems.

Chris Ellis - Nanoparticles as Catalysts

Using water-in-oil inverse micellar emulsions it is possible to synthesise nanoparticles of dimensions limited by the size of the surfactant encased, aqueous droplets. It is hoped that high surface area nanoparticles with useful catalytic properties can be produced in these inverted micelles.
