Not every enzyme is the same, but they all share some important mechanistic features.  For example the hydrolysis of a protein by chymotrypsin is shown below:

Another important example is the mechanism of Chorismate Mutase, which is an enzyme that was I worked on in as a final year project.

 

 

Chorismate Mutase, the enzyme, catalyses the reactive diaxial substrate Chorismate into Prephanate via the Claisen rearrangement.  The reaction proceeds via a chair like transition state.  It has been found that there are no covalent interactions with  the transition state, as there are no movement in the residues at the active site of the complex.
