Side Effects

The side effects of technetium are very limited. The radiation exposure of the patient is, in general, less than for other radiographic procedures, for example X-rays.  The technetium tracers are excreted through the kidneys quickly, and as the half-life of ^99mTc is only just over 6 hours, any material left in the body soon loses its activity.
