Medical uses of quinine:
To treat resistance stains
of plasmodium falciparum malaria.
To treat cerebral, severe
or complicated malaria.
To prevent vomiting so
orally administer drugs can be absorbed.
As a muscle relaxant, especially
used to treat notunal muscle cramps.
Side effects of quinine:
Tinnitis (ringing in the
ears)
Impaired hearing.
Nausea
Change in blood pressure
Vertigo
Fever
Headache
Abdominal pain
Flushing or itching of
skin
.Symptoms of a quinine overdose:
.Blindness
Deafness
Vomiting
Headache
Fever
Loss of conciousness

- Coma
- Renal failure
- Respiratory failure

The average lethal dose
of quinine for an adult is approximately 8g. Death may occur with in a few hours
or a day or two later.
