Cosmetic
Applications
Properties of Talc;
Very
soft - Talc can be marked by a fingernail. It is at the bottom of
the Mohs scale, (diamond is at the top!).
Perfect
cleavage - The ease of parting along the cleavage surface is due
to the strong bonding within layers but weak bonds (Van der
Waal's) between layers.
Pearly
on cleavage surface - Otherwise it is greasy or dull.
Low
heat and electrical conductivity.
Fire
resistant - It hardens when heated to a very high
temperature.
Not
attacked by acids.
All of these properties make Talc an ideal
primary ingredient in powder cosmetics.
