Species and Where They are Found
There are 15 families of snake known within the world, some of these contain many species whilst others contain only one. In total there are 2,400 species of snake recorded. Not all of these snakes are venomous of the 15 families only two are regarded as particularly venomous these are the cobras elapidae and the vipers viperidae.
Some non venomous snakes like pythons, blind snakes and file snakes are solid toothed that is they don't deliver venom when they bite. These non-venomous snakes employ different techniques to kill their prey for example boas asphyxiate their prey with their large bodies. In fact in pre-historic times the large boas were the predominant species of snake and some times measure up to 25m! |
