Biography:
Michael graduated from the University of Leeds in 2013 with a first class MChem in Chemistry with Industrial Experience. During his third year he undertook a year long placement at Biofocus in Cambridge, working as part of a medicinal chemistry team in the lead optimisation of a drug discovery project. His final year research project, supervised by Professor S. Marsden, investigated rhodium catalysed C-H activation in the synthesis of tunable fluorescent molecules. Upon graduation, Michael was awarded the Whytlaw-Grey prize, which is awarded to the most outstanding chemistry graduate of the year.

Degree:
MChem with a year in industry, University of Leeds, 2009-2013.

Current Work:
The development of novel Pd(II) mediated oxidative C-H activation/substitution cascades for the generation of polyhetero aromatic compounds.

Experience:
Year in industry in medicinal chemistry at Biofocus.

Hobbies:
Motorcycles, video games.
