Delocalization Energy

 

The delocalization energy is defined as:

 

The p electron energy of the system minus the p electron energy of an equivalent number of isolated double bonds.

 

If there is an odd number of carbon atoms in the conjugated system then the comparison energy is taken to be that of an equivalent number of isolated double bonds plus a for the energy of the odd electron.
