Copper Ion Properties

Redox Potentials

Proteins influence the redox potential of copper sites by the site geometry - redox potential tuning of the active site is a common feature in bioinorganic chemistry. In contrast to Fe(II) and Fe(III), copper is never found in heme complexes.

Copper Dimers and Trimers

Bi- and poly-copper compounds are quite common in coordination chemistry, Cu(I) has a particularly rich chemistry involving dimers, chain structures, tetrameric and even more complex structures.
