- Dr Christopher Rego - is now a Principal Lecturer and head of physical chemistry at Manchester Metropolitan University.
- Professor Wang N. Wang - was now a Professor in the Electronic Engineering Dept at Bath University, but has since retired.
- Professor Peter Partridge - worked at DERA Farnborough for a few years looking into diamond fibres, metal matrix composites, etc, but has now retired.
- Dr Nicola Everitt - was a lecturer at Nottingham University, but has now become a pastor.
- Dr Beth Nicholson - working for Slumberger in Cheltenham.
- Dr Felix Dias - is now working in in a government research institute in India.
- Dr Simon Henley - is now a lecturer at Surrey University
- Dr Feng Chen (email: felicity_chen@yahoo.co.uk) - is now living near Boston in the US.
- Dr Fred Claeyssens - is now a Reader in Biomaterials, Engineering Materials Department, University of Sheffield.
- Dr Andrew Cheesman (email: cheesman@titan.physx.u-szeged.hu)- is now an International Chaplain at the University of Szeged, Hungary, as well as being an Assistant Pastor and farmer.
- Dr Jie Ma - is now a postdoctoral research assistant at Cornell University, USA.
- Dr Gareth Fuge - is working for Du Pont in north Bristol researching into photovoltaic solar cells.
- Dr Kane O'Donnell - was a postdoctoral researcher at the Australian synchrotron in Melbourne, and is now retraining as a medical doctor in Melbourne.
- Dr Judy Hart - is now a senior lecturer at the University of New South Wales in Melbourne, Australia.
- Dr Yousheng Zou (email: yshzou75@gmail.com) - was a a visiting academic here from 2011-12, and is now a lecturer at Nanjing University of Science and Technology in China.
- Dr Hudson Zanin - is now a Professor at Unicamp, in Sao Jose dos Campos near Sao Paulo, Brazil.
- Dr Oliver Fox (oliver.fox@diamond.ac.uk) - is now working for the Diamond Light Source in Harwell as a synchrotron beamline scientist.
- Dr Mohammad Zamir Othman (Zamir.Othman@usim.edu.my) - completed his PhD here in the area of diamond-based thermionic devices in May 2014, then worked as a Postdoc here for 2 years before returning to Malaysia in July 2016 to take up a lecturer position at USIM in Malaysia.
- Dr Ben Truscott is now working for Element Six Ltd, near Harwell.
- Dr Paul Nistor (paulnistor@me.com) is now working in Romania.
- Dr Sohail Mushtaq - is currently seeking employment as a postdoc.
- Dr Afaq Piracha - is now working in the quantum information group at Harvard in Boston.
- Professor Michael N.R. Ashfold, FRS - is a Professor of Physical and Theoretical Chemistry, who cofounded the diamond CVD group. He retired in 2021.
PhD and MSc Students
- Mr Adam Kirwan - studied here for a PhD in the area of compuational simulations of diamond surface functionalisation, and was working as a software engineer in Italy.
- Dr Hugo Dominguez Andrade - studied here for a PhD in the area of thermionic electron emission from diamond, and is now working as a postdoctoral researcher in Physics.
- Mr Sundar Muthuganesan - graduated with a 1-year MSc by research in 2024 in templated diamond deposition.
- Ms Rae Dareria Holmes - graduated with a 1-year MSc by research in 2023 in diamond detectors.
- Dr Matt Brumwell (nd18734@bristol.ac.uk) - finished his PhD in polymer-templated diamond growth, on a joint program with UoB and University of Victoria in Canada, in Dec 2023. He is currently travelling the world.
- Mr Ed Smith (edmund.smith@bristol.ac.uk) - completed his PhD in December 2021 studying diamond deposition methods onto GaN, and is now working for Cardiff company Spaceforge.
- Dr Robbie Mackenzie (gm12172@bristol.ac.uk) - completed his PhD studying studying diamond-based gamma-voltaic technology in late 2021.
- Dr Dominic Palubiski (dominic.palubiski@bristol.ac.uk) - finished his PhD studying diamond/metal and diamond/polymer composites for improved wear, thermal, and damping capabilities, funded by ACCIS, in Nov 2021.
- Mr Max Williams - is a PhD student studying computer simlations of diamond growth, funded by the UK Diamond Science and Technology CDT and IIa Technologies (Singapore). He is about to submit his PhD thesis (Dec 2021) and has already started working as a computer programmer at a Japanese investment bank in London.
- Dr Limin Yang passed PhD student studying applications of nanodiamond particles in Nov 2021, and will be working for the Hong Kong City University (Shenzhen).
- Dr Kaili Yao - obtained her PhD at Harbin University, China in Nov 2021.
- Dr Tahani Almutairi - passed her PhD studying methods for n-type doping of diamond in 2021 and is currently working in Saudi Arabia.
- Dr Gary Wan (gary.wan@bristol.ac.uk) - studied for a PhD here working on electron emission from diamond. He passed his viva in January 2021.
- Dr Fabian Fogarty - studied for a PhD here in surface functionalisation of diamond for thermionic emission applications, funded by the UK Diamond Science and Technology CDT. He passed his viva in June 2020 and is currently working as an inside sales account manager for cybersecurity at NTT.
- Dr Michael James - did a PhD hre in diamond surface terminations for thermionic applications, graduating in 2020.
- Ms Emily Pole studied electron emission from diamond surfaces and left in 2019.
- Miss Jenny Cook was a PhD student studying the growth of isotopically pure diamond using plasma-based CVD and left in 2020.
- Dr Ed Mahoney - studied for a PhD in the area of gas-phase diagnostics from diamond CVD plasmas funded by the UK Diamond Science and Technology CDT. He graduated in 2020 and is currently travelling the world.
- Dr Alex Croot - graduated in 2018 with a PhD in the area of beta-assisted thermionic electron emission from diamond. He is currently working for a materials/electronics company in Newport.
- Dr Xian (Cathy) Zhang (xz12914@bristol.ac.uk) - studied for a PhD in the area of thermionic electron emission from diamond, and is now director of the spin-out company Diamond-X in Bristol.
- Dr Sarah Halliwell - passed her viva in Dec 2016 and is now working for the EPSRC in Swindon.
- Dr Mark Kelly - worked as a teacher in Kenya for 2 years, and is now working as a teacher in the UK.
- Mr Jan Harwood - is currently training to be a patent lawyer.
- Dr Jeff Rodgers - is obtained his PhD here in the area of Monte Carlo modelling of diamond growth in November 2014.
- Dr Joshua Lay (Joshua.Lay@mantisdeposition.com) - obtained her PhD here in the area of Kelvin probe studies of diamond grain boundaries in June 2014, and now works as a Technical Sales and Service Engineer for Mantis Deposition, Ltd.
- Dr Monika Allen - obtained her PhD here in the area of diamond-based microplasmas arrays in May 2014 and is currently looking after her new daughter.
- Dr Vijay Chatterjee (vijay7chatterjee@gmail.com) - obtained a split-site PhD in the area of secondary electron emission from diamond in 2016. He is working as a researcher CSIR CEERI Pilani, Rajasthan, India.
- Dr Raquel Vaz - passed her PhD in the area of secondary electron emission from diamond for fast-response dynode devices in Sept 2013, and worked as a postdoc at Ulster University for a year.
- Dr James Richley - passed his PhD thesis in the area of cavity ring down spectroscopy of diamond plasmas, and modelling surface reactions in November 2011 and is now working at AWE.
- Dr Tomas Martin (tomas.martin@bristol.ac.uk) - obtained his PhD here in Oct 2011, worked for an alternative energy company, Wind Prospect in Bristol for 2 years, and was a postdoc at Oxford University studying atomic probe spectroscopy techniques. He is now a lecturer in Nuclear Materials and Fuel Cycle in the Physics Dept here at Bristol.
- Dr Li Yang (li.yang@xjtlu.edu.cn) - passed her PhD viva in January 2008 in the area of pulsed laser ablation at the soli/liquid interface, worked for the National Physical Laboratory near London for 3 years, and is now an associate professor at Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University near Suzhou in China.
- Dr Edward Crichton - finished his PhD in Sept 2007 in the area of mass spectrometric gas phase diagnostics of diamond MW CVD plasmas.
- Dr Jacob Filik - finished his PhD in Sept 2006, in the area of deposition and characterisation of doped DLC films deposited using an RF PECVD reactor, as well as theoretical studies of diamondoid molecules. He then worked as a Postdoc researcher for the NHS in Gloucester studying Raman spectroscopy for medical diagnostics, then for Renishaw as a software/design/development engineer. He is now working at the Diamond Light Source synchrotron near Oxford.
- Dr Christopher Rennick - completed his PhD in the area of deposition and laser diagnostics of diamond films using a DC arcjet reactor in March 2006, and worked as a postdoc at the University of Vancouver, Canada. He is now working as a researcher at Oxford University.
- Dr Sean Pearce (seanpearce@f2s.com) - completed his PhD in October 2003 in the area of deposition of carbon phosphide thin films. Working for Renishaw as a service engineer for laser Raman spectrometer systems, for 3 years, before joining the Gloucester Police in 2006. He is now a science teacher near Gloucester.
- Dr James Petherbridge - passed his PhD in the area of gas phase diagnostics of various diamond CVD reactors, including work on low temperature deposition and sulfur doping using MW PECVD, and is now working as a Scientific Officer at AWE in Aldermaston.
- Dr Ming-Tsun Kuo (mt.kuo@ms11.url.com.tw) - obtained his PhD in July 2001 and is now working in Hsinchu, Taiwan as a PDRA in the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI).
- Dr Matthew Latto - passed his PhD viva in February 2002 and is currently working in the IT Dept of the John Lewis Company in London.
- Dr Roland Tsang (roland.tsang@talktalk.net) - obtained his PhD here in 1998, worked in the Deutsche Bank for 8 years, and now runs his own real estate businesses in the UK.
- Dr Stuart Leeds - obtained his PhD here in Spring 1999 and is now working for a software company in Poole as a software engineer.
- Dr Steve Redman - obtained his PhD here in autumn 1999 and is now working as a Physics teacher in Watford.
- Dr Rob Lade - obtained his PhD here in December 1999 worked near Heathrow for a company that makes optical filters for fire sensing. He sadly passed away a few years ago.
- Jonathan Cole is now working for Magnex in Abingdon, manufacturing NMR and MRI machines.
- Neil Smith is now working in Perugia, Italy.
- Sarah Johnson - obtained her MSc in 1998 and is now working as a management consultant.
- Marcus Elliott - obtained his MSc in January 2000.
- Stefan Höhn - studied for a PhD at Freiburg University in Germany, working on macromolecular chemistry.

- Edward Williamson - working in France for the Dept of Energy.
- Richard Thomas - managing director of Mosiac Fashions in Hong Kong.
- James Weeks - obtained his PhD in the polymer/colloids section here at Bristol in 1999, now working for the RSC as coordinator for the Chemistry preprint server.
- John Stone - obtained his PhD in the inorganic section here at Bristol in 2000.
- Dr Arabella Blood - obtained her DPhil from Oxford University 1998, and is now Head of Science at St Laurence School, Bradford on Avon, Wiltshire.
- Dr Tim Walsh - obtained a PhD from the Physics Dept here at Bristol in 1998 and is now working for a software company in Bath.
- Dr Rob Tanner - obtained his D.Phil from Oxford University in 2000, then went to Yale in the US doing postdoctoral research on metal oxide surfaces, and is now studying ion scattering at Warwick University.

- John Bilton - working in finance/IT for a bank in the City of London.
- Andy Young - working as a Chemistry teacher in Cheltenham.

- Dr Mark Wallace - did a PhD in Cambridge, then did a postdoc in Stanford, and is now a lecturer at Oxford University.
- Dr John Marshall - obtained his PhD in the polymer group here at Bristol in February 2002, and is now working as an IT consultant.
- Terry Pollard - worked as a management consultant, finished an MBA at Imperial College Management School in July 2003, then worked in Oxford as a Business Development Fellow for Isis Innovation Ltd. Now working for a start-up company he helped create called Oxford Catalysts.
