NMR
The Polymer and Colloids Group has three Nuclear Magnetic Resonance spectrometers to carry out its research in this demanding field. They are complicated to operate, so all users have to contact Dr Youssef Espidel ( Youssef.Espidel@bristol.ac.uk ) for booking time and training.
Bruker DSX 400 MHz NMR Spectroscopy
This instrument can be used for various techniques:
- High Resolution liquids: Emphasis in diffusion measurements, in particular H-1, D-2, Na-23
- High Resolution Solid: Two different type of probe head, (i) low capacity 4 mm, multi-nuclear probe head ( Li6 to P31), max SS 15 KHz, (ii) low capacity 2.5 mm, H-1 probe head max SS 30 KHz. Work is directed to the structural characterization of organic and inorganic compounds, mainly by looking at C-13, P-31, Si29 spectrum
- Micro Imaging probe head: Sample diameters 10, 5 and 2.5 mm. Emphasis in solvent migration in polymeric systems

Bruker DSX 300 MHz NMR Spectroscopy
This instrument can be used for various techniques:
- High Resolution liquids: Emphasis in diffusion measurements, in particular H-1 and F-19
- High Resolution Solid: Two different type of probe head, (i) high capacity 7 mm, multi-nuclear probe head (N-15 to P31), max. spinning speed (SS) 5 KHz, (ii) low capacity 4 mm, multi-nuclear probe head ( Li6 to P31), max SS 15 KHz

Bruker MSL 300 MHz NMR Spectroscopy
- High Resolution liquids: Emphasis in relaxation measurements, T1 and T2 in different systems like emulsions, polymeric systems
