Instruments in the School of Chemistry
The School of Chemistry is equipped with 10 NMR spectrometers. The
number in the name indicates the 1H frequency in MHz.
Open Access 400MHz Instruments (Basic NMR training required).
Bruker Nano400- Multinuclear instrument. Sample changer (60 positions) and autotune probe.
- Used for routine 1H (including COSY, HSQC, HMBC), 13C, 31P, 11B and
19F.
- Multinuclear instrument equipped with a sample changer (64 positions) and autotune probe.
- Used for routine 1H (including COSY, HSQC, HMBC), 13C, 31P, 11B and
19F.
- Multinuclear instrument equipped with a sample changer (64 positions) and autotune probe.

Jeol ECS400 (Open Access when not

- Principally used for 31P, 11B & 19F measurements of air
sensitive and/or unstable samples.
- Operated by trained researchers with specific requirements using the booking system.
- State-of-the-art instrument with a cryo-enhanced probe with sample changer and autotune probe.
- Very high sensitivity for 13C and 1H. Used for advanced NMR studies or where sample amounts are limited.
- Operated by 500MHz trained users with specific requirements using the booking system.
- Multinuclear instrument equipped with a sample changer (50 positions), autotune probe.
- Used for 1H, 13C, 31P, 11B and 19F. Available for high temp NMR studies and reaction kinetics.
- Operated by 500MHz trained users with specific requirements using
the booking system.
- Proton sensitive Multinuclear instrument equipped with a sample changer (50 positions) and autotune probe.
- High 1H sensitivity. Used for 1H detected experiments (e.g. 1H, COSY, HSQC, HMBC, NOESY).
- Operated by 500MHz trained users with specific requirements using the booking system.
- State-of-the-art instrument with a 1H sensitive HCN cryo-enhanced probe.
- Used to obtain high quality data on demanding samples.
- Available to all researchers in Chemistry but operated by specified users and NMR staff.
- State-of-the-art 700MHz instrument with a 1.7mm cryo-enhanced probe which offers some of the highest sensitivities for 1H NMR in the country.
- Used to obtain high quality data on micro gram quantities of sample.
- Available to all researchers in Chemistry but operated by specified users and NMR staff.
